The Child Advocacy Center is a non-profit organization that provides services
to children that have been identified by the Department of Children’s Services
as severely physically and/or sexually abused. The CAC began providing services
to children in April, 2002. The center is child-friendly and non-threatening.
In 2005, CAC offered services to more than 300 new children which are up from
187 in the year 2004. According to the Department of Children’s Services, they
have received more the 1,900 referrals from all four surrounding counties. The
CAC offers forensic interviews, victim services specialist, a therapist, a
family advocate, and forensic medical examinations. The CAC’s goal is to
install resource libraries within the schools they serve. The libraries will be
accessed by the school staff, primarily the school counselors as they interact
with children that have suspected of child abuse. Thank you Judy Lawhorn for
recommending this incredible organization!
