School on Wheels
Indiana

A homeless child looks no different than other children. They are full of energy, want to have fun, play and make friends. They want what any child wants: stability and security in their lives, to excel in what they do, participate in school activities, make friends. But there is a big difference: the homeless child has none of these things. They live in shelters, in motels, in cars and on the streets.

There are over one million homeless children in the United States and over 90,000 in California. Of those who do, they experience four times the rate of development delays as other children and are twice as likely to repeat a grade.

Education is the key to our country's future. Education is basic for any child to have hope and a chance for success. The homeless child is no exception. Lisa Deno discovered an organization that is offering a solution to this problem. It is called School on Wheels… School on Wheels exists to support the educational needs of homeless children who struggle daily in accomplishing their number one job as a child – “learning”.

Thank you Lisa Deno for your recommendation and personal involvement!
