Kiefer Pride of Trojanland Band Awarded Grant From Make Sense Foundation to Purchase New Instruments

Some days are pure magic! Long-term Kiefer Public Schools band director Robert Brown has been battling leukemia. Today was a BIG day for him. He learned he is cancer-free! AND he learned that a match has been found for his bone marrow transplant! AND to top it off, the Make Sense Foundation awarded a grant to Kiefer Pride of Trojanland to purchase 20 new instruments. Mr. Brown is seated.

The Pride of Trojanland band has grown from a class 1A to 3A over the last 16 years. In order to keep up with the growth, the band has added intermediate band, jazz band, and 2 assistants. To continue to meet the growth and compete effectively, the band must update its music library and instruments. Many instruments currently used are over 17 years old, and some can no longer be tuned due to wear and tear. Many students come from families that cannot afford to purchase or even rent instruments, so Kiefer makes it a priority to ensure that any child wishing to participate in the band has an instrument to play.
